The word "chandelier" is often used together with adjectives such as "elegant", "opulent" and "expensive." Indeed, there was a time when these lighting fixtures were thought about as luxury items belonging to the swanky homes and suites of the rich and famous. However, as the financial urgency began putting pressure on the lighting industry, functional but approved chandeliers have been industrialized which are within reach of the mean homeowner's budget. Gone are the lavish crystal trimmings, to be supplanted by sleek, approved chandelier shades.
Indeed, there was a time when chandeliers were crafted to originate magnificent lighting, thanks to the highly refractive adornments, such as crystals, pendants, drops, prisms and other trimmings. This is because, back then, the sources of light for the chandelier were candles. As a fire prevention method, these "chandeliers" - as they were called back then - were suspended high up in the ceiling, but the light they produced was inadequate to brighten up rooms and halls. The lavish use of candles and garnish has made chandeliers status symbols for the wealthy.

As centuries passed, innovations were made to meet the varied improvements being done in these lighting fixtures. For example, with the coming of gas and kerosene - and the continued use of candles - glass covers have been industrialized as a fire protection measure as well as for attractive purposes. With the coming of electricity, however, changes had to be made to lessen the intensity of the light being produced by the chandelier bulbs for a mellower glow, which is demanded by contemporary living.
One such advancement is the use of faux candles. These are certainly light bulbs that produce a flickering glow similar to real candles. To give them a more authentic feel, they are regularly enclosed in tinted covers with fake wax drippings added to them.
And then there is the chandelier shades. These are tiny lamp shades especially designed to soften the glare and diffuse the light being emitted by the chandeliers. These shads are ready in a variety of color and styles, with excellent matte black being one of the more favorite styles. Some of these shades even have a few hanging ornaments like small crystals and beads.
From sparkling excellent ornaments to ultra-modern chandelier shades, the chandelier continues its evolution even up to the gift time.
I most certainly hope that this report help you and that it gave you sufficient facts to help you resolve on your next chandelier.
