Chandeliers are much more colorful these days. You not only see the usual metals, brass, nickel, wrought iron. You now have the choice of white, pink, red, green! Any number of colors are now available.

Chandeliers have become more popular for use in other rooms besides the foyer or dining room. Smaller chandeliers, called mini chandeliers, are available for bathrooms, children's rooms, kitchens. They are eye catching and make a nice finishing touch for most rooms.

Other ways to add color to chandeliers is through decorative items, such as finials, pendalogues, and crystals. All of these items come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Change out your clear crystals easily with a just a few small tools. You can add crystal spears as well, instead of the usual teardrop prisms. The nice thing about prisms is that, because they have so many angles cut in them, they are very refractive and add a beautiful sparkle and shimmer when the light hits them.

Changing your chandelier shades can also change the look of your chandelier dramatically. It can not only alter the color scheme, it can give the lighting in the room a warmer glow. Chandelier shades are made from fabric, glass, even paper.

If you do decide to change out or add chandelier shades, ensure that you check the wattage of the bulbs used. You do not want to chance burning your new shades or starting a fire if the shades cannot handle a higher level of heat from the bulbs. You will also need to ensure, particularly with higher wattage bulbs, that the shades are at least three inches away from the actual bulb itself.

Some examples of more colorful chandeliers are the Everesty Red Venetian Style Glass Chandelier by Eurofase. The base structure is high gloss chrome, but the rest of the chandelier, from the scrolling, to the candle cups, to the bottom bowl, are all red class. Some would call this gaudy, but many find it very beautiful. And adding colored chandeliers can be a fairly inexpensive way to modify or redecorate a room, without going to a lot of effort to paint or make other improvements.

The Lite Source Crown Five Light Chandelier in Antique Green is another example of a colored chandelier. This chandelier is much more basic than the Everesty chandelier, but still very pretty. It is available at Walmart and inexpensively priced.
